Laboratory activity

The Core Facility Monoclonal Antibodies provides complete support for all steps of custom monoclonal antibody production, from antigen design to antibody validation and purification with more than 25 years of experience. We are open to internal and external partners from academia and industry.

Our service encompasses antigen design, immunization of rats and mice, screening and establishment of custom monoclonal antibodies and the supply of established antibodies. Furthermore, we provide purification and labelling of monoclonal antibodies, samples of commonly used control and secondary antibodies and a secured long term-storage of hybridoma clones.

We use hybridoma technology to generate thousands of clones per immunized animal which are then analyzed in an automated high-throughput flow cytometry screening platform according to the specific project requirements. We also design ELISA assays to identify high-affinity binders or neutralizing antibodies in the primary screening. A thorough antibody validation is performed in collaboration with our partners. Specific hybridoma clones are then subcloned to obtain stable monoclonal cell lines which are cryo conserved to guarantee an unlimited antibody source.

We have generated antibodies against difficult targets such as transmembrane proteins, post-translationally modified proteins, small molecules and surface proteins on cells, virus-like particles or extracellular vesicles. We frequently license antibodies with high value for the research community to industry partners. To archive the DNA sequences or for futher antibody engineering, we also provide recombinant antibody cloning.
